For The Love Of Cats

This is a series of my favorite photographs taken while visiting the Popcorn Park Zoo today. Right next to the zoo is the Forked River shelter of the Associated Humane Society. I had asked these wonderful people if I could photograph their animals and they were very accommodating. I really wanted to photograph in the Kitty City but they needed to finish cleaning first so I went with one of the animal caregivers to the "back rooms" where I was introduced to even more cats in even more rooms. I was mobbed by swarms of friendly, purring faces, some of whom even jumped in my lap. It made me a little sad, to think that a lot of these sweet and beautiful cats were abandoned or mistreated. I just don't get it, I really don't. Don't get me wrong, I understand that there is a surplus of cats in the world. But so many of these affectionate, loving cats never deserved to be abandoned at all. And even those who aren't so nice (and well I didn't meet any if there were) still don't deserve their fate. (Usually as I've learned, 'mean' or 'difficult' animals are the direct result of human mistreatment.) Once the cleaning was then finished, I headed back to Kitty City for some more photos. If I remember the name of the cat I'll mention it, but that's really not the point. The point of these photos is to see those many furry and sweet faces who need a good, loving home. I am going to 'surprise' this shelter with a package containing prints of these photos and a donation. I hope that by you seeing this, you may decide to adopt a great cat at this fabulous shelter, or, you can join their very fun and rewarding "Share-A-Pet" program where you can see photos of your chosen pet and information regarding him/her. You can also do this with their zoo animals, anything from a tiger to a peacock. I used to do this years ago and enjoyed it immensely. I am definitely going to get back into it again. I am SO happy I got to accomplish this, and I hope to do it again someday! And why no dogs? Well, I'm a cat lover, that's for sure. But the dogs are a little harder since I don't think they have a special room and are merely in cages or 'runs'. It would be a lot harder to photograph them. Also dogs can be more dangerous in my opinion, I don't always trust them. I love dogs, but cats are precious to me. :3
